INCOM IPS GmbH, Bonn offers with GetPat@Web a new software solution for the direct access to the INPADOC patent family and legal status data of more than 65 Patent Offices worldwide. Bibliographic data and the complete document in PDF-Format can be automatically downloaded as well. The PFS data brings together patent publications with similar claims from a wide range of countries. The publications are sorted into "families", so that the user can find out in what countries a patent for a given invention has been applied for or granted. The PRS data contains the legal status which shows whether a particular patent is still valid or has expired. This facilitates the exploitation of inventions which are no longer protected and ensures that users do not pay unnecessary licence fees for lapsed patents. GetPat@Web uses the data base of the European Patent Office. The availability and the up-to-dateness of the data corresponds to the high quality standard of the office. Key aspects of GetPat@Web:

There are three main views in GetPat@Web which reflect the three download steps: The New, the Available, and the Downloads view.
The New view The New view is used to create a list of document numbers. This can be done by simply typing the desired document numbers into the empty table of the New view. As an alternative, it is also possible to import a list of document numbers from a file. In addition, the table of the New view allows to set the type of selected document numbers to "Patent Number", "Application Number", or "Priority Number".

The Available view The Available view shown below offers an availability check of the document numbers of a request. Family members are displayed indented as a result of the availability check. The blue check boxes indicate which document types (bibliographic data, legal status, complete document) are available for download (grey check boxes indicate document types which are not available for the given document number). As soon as the availability check has been finished, the document type check boxes (Biblio, Legal, P-Doc) can be set or cleared individually in order to control what is downloaded in the next step. The download of the chosen documents can then be started with the Start download button.

The Downloads view The Downloads view shows the download progress and is used for opening already downloaded documents by just clicking the according document icons in the table. The Requests view at the left side of the window can be used for navigation. The icons of the members of a request reflect their meaning, i.e. patent numbers are shown with a blue bullet, priority numbers are displayed with a red bullet and application numbers are shown with a black bullet.
